Governor Kate Brown today announced the appointment of Kay Erickson as the Director of the Oregon Employment Department, effective August 16, 2016, pending confirmation by the Oregon Senate. She served as the agency’s acting director since January.

“Kay’s considerable management experience helped her transition quickly and maintain stability at the Employment Department, and I appreciate her willingness to step up when I needed her,” Governor Brown said. “Moving forward, I know I can count on her to be an innovative and collaborative leader for the Employment Department in providing critical services and information to employers, job seekers, and policy makers.”

“I recognize and appreciate the diversity of Oregon’s economies and its people,” Erickson said. “As the Director of the Oregon Employment Department, I am committed to serving all of Oregon.”

Erickson has more than 20 years of experience successfully managing business operations, spending much of her professional career in the private sector, mostly in printing and distribution. Prior to her appointment at the Employment Department, Erickson served in leadership roles in management, budget, and finance with the State of Oregon.

Erickson’s 12 years with the Department of Administrative Services included a variety of roles. Early in her public service career, Erickson ran the state’s centralized print production facility and most recently she served as the state’s Budget Manager, leading the team of policy and budget analysts who provide counsel and support to the Governor. Erickson also spent four years at the Department of Consumer and Business Services as the department’s Chief Financial Officer and a member of the executive leadership team.

Both in the public and private sectors, Erickson has built her career on collaboration, stakeholder involvement, providing excellent customer service, and fostering innovation.
